ChaLEAN Extreme
I finished ChaLEAN Extreme! Finally. I started this program a few times over the past couple of years. I changed up the recommended schedule a tad because I’ve come to rely on a 7 day per week workout schedule and this program has two rest days. But all I really did was add the included yoga to one of the rest days and moved the active recovery workout to the other.
I actually bought the program, you know back in the days of DVDs, right after I finished 21 Day Fix. But then, a Tony Horton Challenge came along and who can resist Tony? Then a new program came out and then another… Anyway, it took me almost two years to get this loaded. Honestly, I was a little afraid that it would be “too easy” after 80 Day Obsession, but I was sorely mistaken.
I just love Chalene Johnson from her Podcasts, and boy does that girl know how to put together a workout. Plus, she’s just too cute. Those boots! 🙂 (You’ll just have to try it to see what I mean).
The program doesn’t require a lot of equipment. You just need a few weights – light, medium, and heavy. One of my favorite things about Chalene as a trainer is that her cuing is awesome, and she always tells you what weights she’s using. I like this because choosing weights is half the battle for me. In the videos, some of the cast are using selectech weights that allow you to go from light to heavy with a few clicks. But I found them really awkward and it took me too long to switch between sets. I mainly just used my free weights. Every workout has a band modifier too, so there’s always that option. Or, water bottles…whatever you have handy. Chalene will teach you how to add resistance when you don’t have any. She also claims that you’ll love push ups by the end, but the jury is still out on that one.
What you’re doing in this program is a combination of weight training and cardio. Of course there’s ab work add-ons and the active recovery workouts as well. But mainly what you’re doing is arms. Lots and lots of arms. For ninety days…
I’m so glad I knocked this one out. I think the yoga was actually my favorite day. I am not a yoga fan, but this one is a little different and I loved the added hand weights to give it just that little something extra. I just know you’ll love it too.
Interested? If you think you might enjoy working with me in at home fitness and nutrition, just choose to “join a challenge” and I’d love to help!
